Broken Dreams
Yesterday a dear friend told me that she is experiencing a broken dream. She revealed that her heart is in anguish, her stomach is in knots, and in the wee hours of the night, her tears fall. Do you recognize the feeling?
Broken dreams...they are the threads that bind us all together. They are the leveling agents that make us all like each other. We are all the result of a broken dream, aren't we? Eden gone wrong, a fallen earth, God's broken dream.
I think of other dear friends and the broken dreams that are threatening to crush their spirits. There are the broken dreams because of an addicted child, another because of an unexpected pregnancy and another dealing with the sudden loss of a dear friend. We all have experienced broken dreams that ruined the future we had our eyes set on. Perhaps we are not dealing with the consequences of a broken dream directly at this moment, but we all know the sting of broken dreams and we know that we are not immune from the malady.
Thankfully, our God, who is intimately involved in a broken dream of His own, understands the challenges of the situation. It is He who saves us from the pains of our broken dreams. He raises to life those in the ashes of old dreams. And when He does, you will be able to start to see the roses through the ash. God's saving grace is not for some future experience, it is for now. Look for it and you will see it -- really---right before your eyes. Stories of people redeemed from their broken dreams and blessed despite the fallen natures of their situation. I know drug addicts who have been able to overcome their addictions and are helping others. Some of my dearest friends were at one time unwed mothers, unsure of the future, but blessed by the baby gifted to them. In great loss, even the loss of a life, I have witnessed healing that couldn't have come if the life had been sustained. My God is amazing and His mercies are never ending!
God's Kingdom is what God does with your life as he sets it right, puts it together, and completes it with joy ((Romans 14:17B (MSG)). Amen to that!! If you are struggling through a broken dream right now, do not let it overwhelm you. Share your struggle with your dear friends, they understand broken dreams. We all understand broken dreams. BUT don't stop there. Share your broken heart with God. Tell Him what you need to be sustained, even if it's for only one more moment. He says, "ask and it will be given to you, seek and you shall find." Ask Him to reveal to you a new dream, one that fits your new situation. Ask Him to reveal the beauty from your broken dreams. You will be shocked as you witness in your own life, the roses in the ash.
A fellow broken dreamer,
Sarah
